May 17, 2012 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In April, Steve Jackson Games launched a Kickstarter to gauge fan interest and support for the Ogre Designer's Edition board game. The project shattered crowdfunding records by raising almost one million dollars. Ogre is now slated for release through distribution in November 2012 and a variety of other Ogre releases will appear in 2013.
"When we launched the Kickstarter, we had no idea what kind of response we were going to get," says Steve Jackson, who created the original game of future tank warfare back in 1977. "From the start, we realized fans were really into the project. Their enthusiasm not only allowed us to bring back the entire game line, we hired new staff just to help us keep up with them!"
"We started working on the Designer's Edition of Ogre back in 2008, but we knew we needed to try something new in order to bring back this huge game," said Phil Reed, company COO. "Kickstarter allowed our fans to help support a fourteen-pound game that's expensive to produce and ship. Even though we exceeded our costs, we're now able to stick to our original promise and the game will retail for $100."
Kickstarter is the leading internet platform that connects creative professionals and companies with fans in order to fund projects. The Ogre Designer's Edition was successfully funded in early May. The project raised $923,680. At its closing, Ogre was one of the top ten projects ever funded on Kickstarter, and set a new record for funding in the board/card game category.
