FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 2, 2001
Austin, TX – Glenn Grant, James L. Cambias, and Jo Walton have something in common; they have all been recently nominated for prestigious science fiction and fantasy awards. But the similarities don't end there, as the trio have all done some great work for Steve Jackson Games.
Traveller illustrator Glenn Grant has been nominated for an Aurora Award (Canada's fan-voted science fiction award) in recognition of his contributions to the GURPS Traveller supplements Starports, Rim of Fire, Alien Races 3, and Ground Forces.
"It is an honor to be nominated for an Aurora, and I'm very grateful to the Canadian SF fans who voted for me in the nomination ballot," Grant said. The Auroras are presented at the annual national con, Canvention, which is in British Columbia in early May this year. Congratulations Glenn, and good luck!
Cambias and Walton are both nominated this year for the John W. Campbell award. The Campbell, awarded every year at the World Science Fiction Convention, is given to "the best new science fiction or fantasy writer whose first work of science fiction or fantasy appearing in a professional publication was published in the previous two years." Cambias said, "I'm tremendously pleased, of course. What with Jo Walton and myself getting nominated, Steve Jackson Games is starting to look like a training ground for SF writers." Cambias wrote GURPS Planet Krishna and the upcoming GURPS Planet of Adventure, co-wrote GURPS Castle Falkenstein, and contributed to a number of In Nomine supplements. He is also a regular contributor to Pyramid Magazine.
"I'm really excited, I'm really honored to be nominated, and I'm planning to go to Philadelphia to MilPhil even though I've already been to the U.S. once this year – I just got back from Minicon when I found out about this. I think it's really wonderful that two SJ Games writers have been nominated." Walton co-wrote GURPS Celtic Myth with Ken Walton, and has contributed to several other GURPS projects, as well as Pyramid Magazine.
